As Lenovo’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Shama Patari is responsible for ensuring compliance with all laws in the jurisdictions in which Lenovo does business and advocating for the Company’s global interests. Shama advises Lenovo on all aspects of international trade regulation, planning and compliance, including customs, export controls, economic sanctions, embargoes, international trade agreements and preference programs. She also represents the company before customs, trade and export regulatory agencies around the world. Shama is also responsible for managing Lenovo’s Ethics and Compliance Program and manages investigations and the implementation of corporate compliance policies and procedures globally. Most recently, Shama became response for the Data Privacy program at Lenovo ensuring compliance with global privacy and data localization requirements. Finally, Shama is responsible for leading Lenovo’s global Government Relations team and managing Lenovo’s interactions with governments, regulatory bodies, and international policymakers.
Prior to joining Lenovo in June of 2017, Shama was a partner at the International Trade Law firm of Barnes, Richardson and Colburn, LLP where she practiced in all areas of Customs and International Trade Law. Her practice primarily focused on counseling various clients on import compliance, trade remedies, export controls, ITAR compliance and economic sanctions across several industries including automotive, agricultural commodities, plastics, defense textile and apparel, electrical goods, chemicals, and other consumer products. She also represented foreign and domestic clients before U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Bureau of Industry and Security, Canada Border Services Agency, the Court of International Trade, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
